Serving as the air transportation hub of New Mexico, Albuquerque International Sunport Airport (ABQ) is located 4 miles / 6.5 km southeast of Albuquerque, just off I-25. To the south of the airport lies White Sands, while to the north you will find both Santa Fe and Taos.
Alongside the western perimeter of the Albuquerque Airport complex is the University Boulevard SE. This road is parallel to the I-25 and runs in a north / south direction, leading to the nearby University of New Mexico Arena, past the UMN Championship Golf Course. To the north you will find both the Yale Boulevard SE and the Gibson Boulevard SE.
Directions to Albuquerque International Sunport Airport (ABQ) from the north:
- From the Santa Fe / Taos direction, take I-25 south towards Albuquerque
- Continue straight through Albuquerque along I-25 until you reach Sunport Boulevard (Exit 221) and head east to the airport.
Directions to Albuquerque International Sunport Airport (ABQ) from the south:
- From the White Sands direction, take I-25 north toward Albuquerque
- Exit I-25 at Sunport Boulevard (Exit 222A) and head east to the airport.
Directions to Albuquerque International Sunport Airport (ABQ) from the east:
- Take I-40 west until you reach I-25, and then turn south
- Follow I-25 and take Exit 221 (Sunport Boulevard) and head east to the airport.

- Follow I-40 east until you reach I-25, and then turn south
- Exit I-25 at Sunport Boulevard (Exit 221) and follow the road east to the airport.
There is normally free-flowing traffic along both I-25 and I-40, so there should be no major hold ups when driving to and from Albuquerque International Sunport Airport. However, be sure to leave plenty of time for checking in and ticketing, so as to avoid rushing to catch your flight.
